Hey! Here are some links to comics or blogs or other things that I really like. It needs updating really badly though, one day I'll get round to adding a new bunch of links.
Tom gets a non-speaking appearance in chapter 1, but his first major role is in chapter 3 (Uniform) where he is revealed to be sort of going out with Sarah in a not-boyfriendy-way at the start of the chapter. They go on another not-date where Sarah makes a move and they kiss, and start a relationship which they describe as being ‘just fun’.
So, today is not just a bank holiday, it’s the royal wedding! Oh how I really don’t care. But let’s not get into that. Here’s Tom’s favourite bands, with what happen to be a couple of my actual favourite songs. Enjoy, and have a good long weekend!
Al’s been a pretty incidental character so far, no real plot significance, besides the fact that Jenn started out annoyed and a bit scared of him, but gained respect for him after he turned out to be clever enough to be able to do most of the work on their joint English Language project. But yes, mostly comic relief, and that’ll be his only real role for a while. He does have hidden depths though, as you’ll find out slowly.
Hope you had a good bank holiday! I’ve realised that I haven’t mentioned on here the fact that I’ve started up a tumblr! It’s a combination of sketches, comic update reminders, and reblogs of things I like. Pretty much what you’d expect from a tumblr. Chances are you already knew, but oh well. Feel free to follow!
Okay Al’s favourite singers. Very tempted to post parodies since I don’t love them particularly, but I’ll resist. Maybe. Depends what I find while searching.
Ke$ha
Beyonce (okay this is only sort of her but I LOVE THIS VERSION OKAY. MOTOWN IS AWESOME.)
Hope you had a good weekend! It’d also be nice if you’d spent a small part of it promoting the comic, but that’s not obligatory. So! Time for Sarah’s profile!
Day One:
Sarah didn’t do a whole lot in this chapter, although she was the first to say hi to Jenn on the as yet unnamed (and forever nonexistant) social networking site they use in this comic.
Projects:
Sarah was however one of the focuses of this chapter. Fed up with not being able to wake up without a coffee, Sarah decides to go cold turkey on caffiene, a decision which is NOT supported by Jamie and Neeve, who get Jenn to try to stop Sarah. This backfires, with Jenn making a pact with Sarah to keep up their personal projects. Over the weekend Sarah gets a haircut, and back at school she discovers that Jenn has officially given up her end of the pact. Initially angry, Jenn points out that this is a good excuse to start drinking caffiene again, as Sarah had been struggling. A lot. Sarah switches to tea instead of coffee at the end of the chapter.
Uniform:
As the member of the gang with the most businessy wardrome, Sarah is unconcerned by the stricter uniform regulations. However, she is a bit frustrated when Neeve discovers her sort of thing with their fellow art student Tom Taylor. Sarah’s fed up with the pressures of ‘dating’ so when it comes to her not-date with Tom at the weekend, where she decides to make the move forward to it being a relationship, she asks if rather than dating they could ‘just have fun’. This ends up with them being all over each other at any possible moment at college. Which is fair enough I guess. Unless you have to watch.
And that’s you up to date with Sarah! Sarah can be pretty fun to write sometimes, mostly because she’s quiet enough that it forces me to try to use SUBTEXT. I don’t think I’m always successful but it doesn’t make it any less fun. Anyway, time for her bands! Once again, ‘singers’ is probably more appropriate.
Day One:
Neeve manages to get on the wrong side of Jenn before they even get on the building, and it only gets worse when she turns out to be in Jenn’s form group. Things escalate a little, but Jamie manages to sort it out and they apologise to each other. They start to realise they’re actually pretty similar to each other in some ways.
Projects:
Neeve didn’t actually do a lot this chapter. She was as emphatic as Jamie was about Jenn stopping Sarah from giving up caffiene, she got a haircut, and she got very disgruntled about the title the art department had set for art/photography A Level (Feet in art). That’s it really.
Uniform:
Neeve, in her signature purple smiley hoodie is particularly unhappy about the new, stricter uniform regulations which insist that girls must wear a suit jacket. Tess comes to her rescue, promising to take her shopping at the weekend, although there is a lot of protesting on Neeve’s part. Before the weekend though, Neeve discovers that Sarah has been sort of kind of seeing an boy in their art class (Tom Taylor). During their shopping day she reveals she’s nervous about the fact that she’s never had a boyfriend while some of her friends (coughTesscough) have had 4. Tess gives her a pep talk and finds her a nice jacket. These both boost Neeve’s confidence, although it is agreed that Tess must never know this lest she become more insufferable.
Aaaaaaand I think that’s it! I didn’t realise till now how little actual plot I gave Neeve in Chapter 2, which isn’t necessarily bad but it’s definitely interesting for me. I think I’ll try to balance it better in future. But now it’s time for Neeve’s favourite bands, or in this case, singers. She’s a mainstream gal, so you probably have heard these songs around, whether you wanted to or not.
A thing: Part of the reason I’m doing the character profiles rather than anything else for this break is to give a jumping on point for new readers. It’d be FANTASTIC if any of you could get even just one or two people to start reading the comic. Anyone who’s promoted the comic in any way at all so far, thanks so much, it’s really appreciated.
Anyway, Jamie’s plot stuff!
Day One:
On Jenn’s first day, she quickly singles out Jamie as the least weird of the people to actually approach her. However, she’s kind of rude to his friends, which annoys him a lot. However she apologises later and it’s all okay. Also, he pretends to know about a band (Blanket Books) Jenn mentions as a test of his ‘indieness’, looking them up online when he gets home.
Projects:
As the person who has to get the bus with Sarah in the mornings, Jamie is very much against her decision to give up caffiene, so implores Jenn to get Sarah to give up on the plan. At the weekend, he tries (successfully) to convince Jenn that her somewhat masculine dress sense is actually kinda cute.
Uniform:
Despite having told Jenn he was busy with schoolwork at the weekend, he makes time for her when Luke stands her up. While at his house, Jenn finds out about an under 18s gig Blanket Books are playing in a few weeks and they book tickets. Back at school, he has a confrontation with Tess, who later stalks him and Jenn and notices a certain closeness between them.
Aaaand that’s you up to date! Now for his favourite bands. Once again, Blanket Books are a non existant band I made up for plot purposes, so don’t try looking them up.
So! The character profiles have started. This is pretty much what to expect from all of them, and I’m going to say a little bit about everyone’s major plot points in these blog bits I think. So here goes:
Day One:
Jenn is the new girl and didn’t know ANYONE at school. Neeve, in her own evil way tried to make friends with her. This was, unsurprisingly taken the wrong way. Jenn ended up brushing various people up the wrong way but everything was okay in the end. Also she’s on some kind of medication but I’m not telling you what. And she has a friend called Luke who is VERY hard to contact.
Projects:
Neeve and Jamie wanted her to try to get Sarah back on caffiene to prevent the end of the world. She half heartedly tried to stop her before forming a pledge to try and dress more like a girl for as long as Sarah wasn’t drinking caffiene. However Jamie convinces her that her tomboyish appearance is actually pretty cool so she gives up, giving Sarah an excuse to drink caffiene again. Everyone wins.
Uniform:
All the girls are kept back in assembly and get told to dress smarter. Jenn doesn’t seem particularly bothered by this at first. When discussing weekend plans with Jamie she says she’s seeing an old friend. This old friend is Luke, who stands her up. Well. He sends a text once she’s gotten to the meeting point. Fortunately Jamie is free and she goes round to his house and explains why she cares about Luke so much as a friend. She also finds a gig for a band she introduced Jamie to in the first chapter, so they book tickets. Back at school, she reveals that she has decided to wear a mans tuxedo as a protest against the uniform regulations.
And that brings us up to date! Whew!
Also, have a couple of videos for her favourite bands. Blanket Books, the one mentioned in the comic, isn’t real and exists purely for plot purposes. As you will find out. Maybe these will give you an idea of the sort of band they would be? Anyway:
BOOOM. I hope you liked this chapter. It’s had it’s flaws, but it’s definitely had it’s moments too. In fact any feedback on what you thought was good/bad could be nice maybe!? Not always easy to tell.
So, as I said, for a while, we’re keeping the update schedule, but you’re getting character profiles instead of comics. Just a little bit of info about the characters and an up to date doodle of them. Many reasons for this:
1. the cast page NEEDS updating and this might force me to do it
2. I think the next chapter needs some (relatively) careful planning, this gives me a chance to do that in a more relaxed way.
3. I quite like having a break between the chapters, in terms of flow it feels about right
And, most importantly,
4. It’s Final Major Project time at college till mid-late May, and I REALLY need to focus on that. I love the comic so much and I love doing it, but passing my foundation year comes first, I’m afraid. The break continues till I think I can handle the combined workload again or until the project is finished.
So, chapter ends friday, and then for a few weeks instead of comics you’re going to get a character profile an update day. Anything you want to see in these profiles, feel free to tell me! Suggestions so far: favourite bands, what they’re studying, and you know, their name? Having their name might help a bit. It’s because of my final major project at college, I really need to give that my focus till its over.
This comic’s pretty rushed because I had a uni interview yesterday and got back late enough that I felt pretty tired, but I didn’t want to give you guys a filler comic, especially this close to the chapter end.
