So, remember the post from last week containing a drawing Dan Bailey did of Jamie and Jenn? Well over the bank holiday weekend he went even further and did a full blown digital version of it!

Seriously, anything bad I had to say about this would be evil nitpicking, it is truly amazing and really appreciated. I’m thinking of making the shoes canon as their out-of-school shoes I’m so amazed. Thanks again Dan!

Hey there! Happy Bank Holiday Monday!
I’m much happier with this week’s art, woo! Also, trying something new with the background art/characters. Tell me what you think! Also, if you don’t recognise Miss Dautry, go back and read page 1 more carefully. Once you’ve done that read the rest of this blog post where I’m plugging a great comics person. I think I might start doing weekly comic plugs, cos there are so many good ones out there, although I’m sure they all have larger audiences than me. Hmm. Also if you didn’t see the thing I posted on tuesday keep scrolling down once you’ve finished reading the plug. Oh and check back tomorrow for another thing along similar lines to that thing.
Okay, you maaaay have heard about it via twitter, but if you hadn’t Howard Hardiman has set up a fundraiser page so he can afford to print his next comic, The Lengths. He describes it better than I ever could on the fundraiser page, so go read about it there. Anyway, there are a few ways you can help him out. The first, and most obvious, is to donate to the fundraiser (there are rewards!), which is something I’m doing as soon as I can realistically afford to. You can also click the ‘Feature it’ link near the bottom of the fundraiser page. Finally you can just tell people about it, over twitter or facebook or whatever. Giving them the link would probably help too
If you don’t know Howard’s comics, check them out. All his comics have gotten some kind of emotional response out of me, which in my opinion is one of the requriements of a really good comic. I was planning on saying more about the comics buuut I can’t remember exactly WHAT. Oh well. Check his stuff out and help support The Lengths!
Oh and come back next week to read the next page of my comic as well? Maybe? Please?
So, in what I guess was a sort of art trade with me, illustrator extraordinaire and Nice Guy™ Dan Bailey drew Jamie and Jenn, and despite the fact there were only 2 pages online at the time, and Jamie hadn’t actually appeared in a proper page yet, he did an amazing job!

I particularly like the facial expressions, he got their personalities down really well. I also just love Dan’s style so there’s that too
He has told me that he intends to do a digital version of it too, which I’m sure will be amazing and will definitely get featured here too. In fact if anyone wants to draw the characters ever, do so and then email/link me to the drawings! All I ask is that you credit me and preferably link to this site.
Oh yes, You can also find Dan on twitter as RubberPenguin and he has a blog that he updates sometimes with sketches and completed illustrations here.
Hi again! This is where things start to get more interesting, because there’s conversation! From now on there’ll usually be a reasonable amount of talking each page.
I’m not thaaaat happy with the art on this page. I messed up some colours (particularly Sarah’s skin) and I went for lazy, lazy backgrounds. This was mostly because Monday to Thursday, drawing a comic about a bunch of 6th formers made me think waaaaay too much about my A level results. After getting my results, I was reminded of my first day in 6th form. I changed school for 6th form, and I was lucky enough to have some really great people say hi and ask me if I wanted to hang out with them even on the first day! If any of you guys are reading this (you know who you are) thank you so much, I really don’t think I could have survived 6th form if you hadn’t done that. Oh and, everyone else? If you’re reading my comic, that makes you pretty great in my eyes as well
Yesterday was the Comica festival/Comiket/whatever you want to call it in Battersea Park by the Pumphouse gallery, which currently has an exhibiton called Hypercomics on, which is as interesting as it is impressive. More info on that here. The comiket was great, and I bought some fantastic comics. I spent a lot of my time there though at the We Are Words + Pictures workshop/drop in and draw (some info on THAT here). If you have a chance to go to one of WAW+P’s drop in and draw events (or just any of their events really) I highly recommend it, you’ll have fun and you’ll meet some lovely people.
Lastly, now that all 4 main characters have appeared in the actual comic, I’m going to get rid of the ‘Coming Soon’ post from a while back and put the image from that with the little bit of character info it had onto the Cast page. If nothing else, it means that clicking ‘First’ will actually take people to page 1.
Anyway, that was a looooong blog post, sorry. I’m writing this very early in the morning so I’m more or less putting down whatever I think of at the time. Hopefully next week the art will be better and I’ll get the strip done faster (shouldn’t remind me of as many memories, I hope) so I’ll be able to write this bit at a reasonable time. See you next week for page 4!
Hey there! Hope you’re all doing well. Today’s page is sadly a bit sad. Oh well. I promise there will be laughs next week! When I will hopefully have remembered how to draw perspective.
In other news not directly related to the comic!
On saturday, I went to the We Are Words + Pictures drop in and draw picnic. Well, in the end we just camped out in the ICA bar because of the rain. I met some people I’d met before, and I met some people I hadn’t! I had a great time, and I hope everyone else there did too. While I was there, one of hte things I drew was a quick sketch comic about the robot brownies Philippa Rice of My Cardboard Life had made. I didn’t take a particularly good look at the cake before drawing it, so the likeness is… not at all like it really, but anyway, click here for that sketch comic!
This coming week, the biggest thing for me probably will be getting my A level results on thursday. I only need one C in anythng to get into the art foundation year I want to do, but I still need decent grades to get into university afterwards. Oh well, worrying isn’t going to magically make my grades better.
See you all next week with page 3!
Hey there! So, I’ve finally started it. Here’s page 1! Page 2 is next week. Oooh!
Yesterday I added a biiiiiig list of links to the left sidebar. They’re most (not all, but most) of the blogs and comics I folow and love. If you have time, they’re worth checking out!
So, I’m off to start drawing something. Either the next page of this, the next page of a mini I’m working on or some other thing. Haven’t decided yet. Do you guys have any ongoing projects? I’m kinda curious now that I’ve said it!
Also, a massive thank you to all the people who’ve mentioned this comic to their friends or fans, it’s much appreciated!
