Oh
So! MCM Expo. What will I have with me.
I’ll have Arthur and Posy. I’ll have Town Mouse. I’ll have my very mini comics. I’ll have linocut prints. I’ll have posters. I’ll have badges. I’ll have some original art. I might even have some paper for sketches but NO PROMISES.
I’ll be on table K12, which seems to be in a slightly different section to the main expo, it’s apparently near the coffee which is near the cybercandy stall. APPARENTLY.
SEE YOU THERE (I had better see you there) (unless you have a very good reason not to see me there)
The #secritprojekt, also known as: Arthur and Posy
by GJohnson on September 8, 2011 at 17:59So, if you’ve been paying attention for the past however long it’s been, you’ll have noticed me going on about a secret project collaborating with a friend that I’ve not been talking about explicitly, but the time has come to announce it!
Arthur and Posy is something I can only describe as a big gittery gay fairytale fandango about a boy who’s too pretty to be a boy and a girl who doesn’t want to be a girl. As it says on the cover, it was written by the ever wonderful Ella, who you can find on twitter as @missellabell and who does do writings elsewhere they are spread far and wide, so it’s best to follow her on twitter because when she has written something, she will tell you.
Ella’s script for this issue (and in fact the next issue, I got both scripts at the same time!) is fantastic, and you know what my art for it isn’t awful either. I generally don’t go round saying my art is amazing (generally it isn’t) but I am really proud of it.
It’s 36 colour pages not including the cover, which I’d say for a single issue of a larger comic, is a pretty decent size.
If you’ve not worked out from what I’ve said, it will be a printed comic, and once it is printed it will definitely be up in my webstore (which I am planning on IMPROVING by the time that I’ve got the printed copies (i.e. getting a bigcartel shop or something like that)) and I’ll have it at comic conventions I’m going to! I can’t guarantee it’ll be printed in time for the Bristol Comic and Zine fair on the 25th of September because of complications with me moving to uni but I am HOPING that it’ll be printed and I’ll have it. I will DEFINITELY have it at Thought Bubble in Leeds in November, and assuming things work out, I’ll have it at the MCM Expo in London at the end of October. I didn’t manage to book a table in time initially, but George Beedham of The Mighty Jambo sadly can’t make it and has offered to let me have his table, we’re just trying to get that sorted with the organisers.
Once again, I am really happy with what Ella and I managed to produce here, and when I am holding it in my hands believe me, I will definitely be making a noise about it online! If you’re looking forward to it, it would be amazing of you to spread the news however you like, and obviously it would also be amazing of you to buy a copy from us once it’s out! I’m going to start working on drawing Issue Two sooner rather than later (probably before the end of the month!) So you shouldn’t have to wait toooooooooooooo long to read the next part of the story either, assuming I manage a decent page rate. See you around!

So, I was meant to do this yesterday but I was to tired to do ANYTHING so yeah, sorry.
2010 was a pretty big year for me. finished 6th form, started art college, had lots of friends move away to uni, made lots of new friends through college and comics, did two comic conventions, started this comic, did a few other comics which I printed at home, and lots of other stuff that I’m not gonna talk about for fear of boring you!
2011 looks to be at least as big, although realistically I don’t know if I’ll be able to do any conventions. But anyway, I’ll be finishing art college, hopefully getting into uni to do illustration, I’ll hopefully be producing a lot in terms of comics, and hopefully meeting even more great new people.
As for this comic though, I have some more specific plans. Here’s some resolutions to keep me on track:

Exactly what it says. I am certain I am capable of writing much better storys than the one Private Study has had so far, and so I’m going to. One of the problems was definitely that I’d decided the whole first chapter would be one day. That was a mistake. But mistakes are there to learn from, and now I know roughly how I’m going to start structuring storylines and chapters. Shorter, more concise, and hopefully more effective.

Of course the doodle for this one would be PARTICULARLY rough, wouldn’t it. But yeah, I’m going to work on getting better all round. More detailed backgrounds (probably still quite simple, but then again right now this comic very rarely has something anyone would call a background), I’ll start using shading, I’ll get better at colouring and linework. I’ll just be working to get better all round. HOWEVER this will require some experimentation, so be patient with me.

This and the essay I’m working on are the reasons for the upcoming guest week. If I’m not drawing the comic the night before it goes up, hopefully I’ll be able to spend a bit more time making it look good. And I’ll be able to spend a bit more time asleep, which I really need.

This one IS a joke. I don’t think I’d ever watched that video until sometime last week. But when I did: woah. Short blonde hair. Stripey top. HMM.
The final thing is that sometime this week I will write that Thought Bubble blog post that is over a month late.
NOW. Something you guys could do to help me is maybe occasionally tell a couple of your friends about this comic. Word of mouth is all I really have in terms of promotion, so anything helps.
That’s it! I hope you had a great new years eve/day, and I hope this year goes well for all of you.
Okay, so that Thought Bubble blog I said I’d do will have to wait till the end of the week, too much work right now to write out that many hyperlinks. Anyway:
I’ve decided that because of some college work and the fact that it might (MIGHT) allow me to build a buffer, I’m going to take a week off from the comic at the end of the year, and I’d like you guys to fill in!
Feel free to do whatever you want, provided it’s not tooo offensive. I know I don’t keep things particularly family friendly round here, but still, keep it to stuff like swear words. No explicit nudity either. Apart from that, my characters are fair game for you to mess around with.
Entries need to be 72 dpi and at most 980 pixels wide (smaller is fine though if you want). Send them to g(dot)johnson(dot)rsn(at)gmail(dot)com.
This is open to everyone (if you’re all ‘but I can only draw stick men!’ that’s cool! draw those stick men!), and the deadline is the 26th, cos this guest week will be the week between christmas and new years.

Hey! So, I said I’d have this up this morning, but I hadn’t printed up the new lot of Dino Girl & Beanie Boy comics, thus couldn’t have that lovely photo.
So! Saturday, I’m selling stuff at Thought Bubble. There should be a link on the right of this blog? If not go onto my homepage and it’ll be on the right of that somewhere. Anyway, if you’re in or near Leeds at all this weekend, you should go cos there is TONS of stuff going on, not just the opportunity to buy comics off of me or lots of other people.
The two small comics there are ‘So you’ve run out of fudge: what do you do?’ and ‘Lonely Little Dancer’. The first is a recipe comic, the latter one about gigs and dancing and stuff. They’re new! I’m pretty proud of both. I’ve also got all the stuff I had at MCM.
Anyway, see you there!
